Halal Food in Trinidad

Halal means “permitted” in Arabic. This is very important concept and a pillar of Islam. One of the most visible expressions of these concepts may be found in Islamic rules. Among those Qur’anic injunctions related to the consumption of food is the following:

“O ye who believe! Eat of the good things that we have provided for you. And be grateful to Allah, if it is Him ye worship. He hath only forbidden you dead meat, and blood, and the flesh of swine, and that on which any other name hath been invoked besides that of Allah. But if one is forced by necessity, without willful disobedience, nor transgressing due limits, then is he guiltless. For Allah is Oft-Forgiving Most Merciful.” (Surah 2.172-173, King Fahd trans.)

                             Trinidad and Tobago is situated in West Indies where Halal food is difficult to find in market therefore in this article we will try our best to inform you some good Halal food shops in Trinidad where you can easily buy your food for your daily needs.

5. Pricesmart Stores- Some meats sold at all four outlets are halaal, such as the frozen beef, lamb, and goat. Chilled meats are not halaal approved. The chicken and turkey sold in packages is also not approved by us, except for the Fine Choice BBQ quarters available sometimes. Many of the cakes are halaal, however, some contain alcohol. These are clearly labelled. The chicken and chips sold at the food stall is permissible; however, we advise precaution with regard to the other items as there may be cross- contamination. Rotisserie chicken is halaal, however the buffalo wings and BBQ chickens are not.

2. Meat from Panama- Beef, beef products and hotdogs (American Star Brand) made in Panama and produced by Carnes De Cocle, Las Tablas, Panama are approved as halaal.

3. Meat from New Zealand, Australia- Beef, Lamb and goat imported from New Zealand and certified by New Zealand Meat Management (NZMM) and Federation of Islamic Association of New Zealand (FIANZ) as well as meat certified by AFIC, AHFST, ICCA etc has been approved as halaal.

4. Meat from USA- Beef and beef products certified by Islamic Services of Omaha and Islamic Services of Washington Area (ISWA) are approved as halaal.
